2009 Colorado August
We flew from Harrisburg, PA to Denver and rented a car from Hertz. We drove to Georgetown, CO and stayed three nights at Hotel Chateau Chamonix. This was an outstanding hotel. We had an upstairs room in the back with a balcony overlooking the creek. It was so relaxing and very clean and comfortable. It took a day or two to adjust to the altitude in Colorado.
On our first full day, we traveled to Rocky Mountain Park and drove through the park on the Trail Ridge Road. It was a little rainy, snowy and cold, but it was a good first day.

Our second day was spectacular!! We had tried on several previous trips to drive up to Mt Evans, but it was closed due to weather conditions. On this trip, it was PERFECT! What a day on August 27th. We drove to the base at Summit Lake and took a few pictures. We had arrived early in the morning and there was no one else on the road EXCEPT…

Mt Evans Goats
What a glorious sight! We stopped and took a lot of pictures. The goats were so entertaining! We continued up the scenic road and arrived at the parking area. And so did the GOATS! After goat watching for quite a while, we drove back down the mountain to Echo Lake and had lunch at the Lodge and took some more pics. It was a day that we will never forget…and we had great weather and great goat cooperation!
There were two more full days in Colorado. The first day we drove thru Leadville, Twin Lakes and across Independence Pass and stayed in Carbondale, Colorado. We made a bus reservation to see the Maroon Bells area the next day.
The next day we drove into Aspen and took the first bus into the Maroon Bells.

Maroon Bells
We had the whole day to hike there and take pictures. It certainly was beautiful! We returned to Carbondale for the night.
Colorado is a beautiful place to visit. The scenery is amazing, the restaurants are plentiful and the shopping is upscale. If you have never been to the west, Colorado would be a good place to start.
